INTRODUCING ACCN and Summits

The Australian Cell Church Network exists to support the development of the cell church movement in Australia by facilitating the connecting of churches and networks of churches that are pursuing the cell church model in its various forms. The Australian Cell Church Summit has been birthed from ACCN. The Summits are a non-denominational gathering of cell based ministers and leaders designed to facilitate interaction and connection.

AUSTRALIAN CELL CHURCH SUMMIT 16th-18th August

The Cell Church Summit will start at 9.00am Wednesday the 16th and finish at approximately 2.00pm on Friday the 18th of August. Each of our speakers this year come with years of experience, a solid commitment to cell values and an ability and understanding that will help you navigate the pathway to a strong cell church. And in keeping with the cell value of vulnerability our speakers will bring an honest and sincere account of their journey into cell, ‘warts and all’!

SPECIAL GUEST: GARY SKINNER

Ps Gary Skinner is the visionary, dedicated and passionate pastoral team leader of the dynamic Kampala Pentecostal Church, the church he founded in 1983 in the heart of Uganda’s war torn capital city. Pastor Gary transitioned the church to a cell-based, community church in October 1997, while a 5000 member congregation. Currently, sixty-five percent of the church’s Sunday congregation of more than 15,000 serve in 1350 cells. Gary was born in Zimbabwe and is a fourth generation preacher, with both his father and grandfather serving as missionaries since 1934 in Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Gary has pastored in Canada and in Zambia.
In 1994 Gary and his wife Marilyn started the Watoto Childcare Ministries as a compassionate response to the cry of Africa’s millions of children orphaned as a result of HIV - AIDS. Currently 1400 children are being cared for through the ministry.

YOUTH/YOUNG ADULT SUMMIT 18th-20th August

Building on the success of 2005 we are enlarging our Australian Youth Summit to include our own special youth guest speaker. Pastor Ric Burrell will be supporting Pastor Gary Skinner. The Youth Summit will be held following the mid week Summit, from 6.00pm on Friday the 18th to approximately 2.00pm on Sunday the 20th. We would encourage you to bring all of your young and potential/emerging cell leaders as this promises to be a powerful time of encouragement and sharing.

SPECIAL GUEST: RIC BURRELL

Ps Ric Burrell is the Youth Pastor at Penrith Christian Life Centre.
Holding this role since 1997 Ric and his wife Naomi have decided not
to run a youth group, but to raise a generation of young people that
will change the world. In the last 4 years they have seen the youth
ministry grow from 250 kids to over 800 disciples of Jesus who are
convinced they are the generation that will change the world. Ric
and Naomi attribute this amazing growth to simply making disciples
through their small group structure of cells. “The very thing Jesus
commanded everyone to do... ‘go make disciples’” is Ric’s philosophy. Having four sons of his own, Ric truly understands the necessity of true discipleship with young people.

HOW WILL THE SUMMITS RUN?

As ACCN is first and foremost a Network, the focus of the Summit is therefore on building relationships, sharing your journey with others (the ups and downs), sharing resources and, in the process,
encouraging and ministering to one another. We also look forward each year to being inspired and challenged by input from a combination of sources including our guest speakers and local Aussie speakers. These speakers also facilitate time in the afternoon sessions where we explore a variety of topics
which this year will include: mobilising missional cells, building healthy cells and creating strong community. For those who would like to explore basic issues of ‘what cell church is and does’ etc. afternoon sessions will be provided where demand is sufficient. Please call or email our office upon registration to signify your
interest if this is the case. Forum Sessions The Australian Cell Church is now over 10 years old and we feel it is time to step back and do a bit of a ‘stock take’. Subsequently this year we have incorporated several Forum Sessions designed to tackle some of the ‘tough questions’. Such questions include:
What is working / What is not, and why?; Is our Church culture connecting with the Aussie male – how can we do things better?; and, Where to from here? – What is God’s direction for the Aussie Cell Church?i We value your input into these discussions.
